Kirsty Surgey
I am a performance maker based in Sheffield. I make playful performance work that engages with the past, with history and shared stories. This work incorporates solo storytelling and participatory improvisation. When creating participatory work, I aim to engage with audiences of all ages, by giving people space to play.
I have a PhD from the University of Sheffield. This was a practice-research doctorate investigating through the possibilities of performance for sharing family histories. For more information about this see: Sharing Stories
I am available to run practical workshops developing performance and storytelling skills. Workshops can incorporate a short storytelling performance and can be topic, text or skill based. Individual sessions or programmes can be developed to suit each groups’ needs and I have fifteen years experience of planning and running workshops and teaching sessions. I am a fully qualified secondary school teacher, but I also have experience working with adults and younger children. For more information about booking a workshop or performance please contact me.
